Shopping hemp well is mostly about a few small habits: knowing the basics, asking good questions, and starting slow.
Be 21+ and know your state
Adult hemp products are intended for customers 21 and older. State and local laws vary on what's legal to buy, possess, and ship. Before ordering, take five minutes to confirm the rules in your jurisdiction.
Read the label
A good label should answer four questions clearly:
- Which cannabinoid is dominant? (THCa, Delta-8, Delta-9, CBD, CBG, etc.)
- How many milligrams per serving? Per-piece for gummies, per-puff or per-cartridge for vapes, per-mL for tinctures.
- What's the source? Hemp-derived, harvested where, by whom.
- Where's the COA? A QR code or URL that links to the third-party lab report.
Read the COA
The Certificate of Analysis is the receipt that confirms the label is honest. Check that batch numbers match, that the lab is accredited, and that the Delta-9 line is at or below 0.3% by dry weight. Our field guide on reading COAs walks through it in detail.
Start with a low serving size
Hemp products vary in potency and how individuals respond. A common-sense approach: pick a low serving size on your first try, give it time, and decide whether to revisit. Don't compare your experience to anyone else's — bodies are different.
Don't mix with alcohol or other substances
Combining hemp products with alcohol, prescription medications, or other substances can produce unpredictable interactions. If you take any medications, talk with a healthcare provider before adding hemp products.
Plan around your day
Don't drive, operate machinery, or do anything safety-critical after using hemp products that can be intoxicating. Plan ahead — pick a place you can stay put.
